Clyde Walkway Phases 1 – 3

A unique resource within the Clydesdale area This project started at the Falls of Clyde, past the Hydro electric station at Bonnington Lynn and through to New Lanark. The site of the Mills, which were conceived by Robert Owen and restored by the Scottish Development Agency/ Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire is now one of the foremost Tourist attractions in Scotland.

The walkway runs through land managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust and designated as a SSSI. The Walkway close to the River was therefore raised above sensitive vegetation on a boardwalk in areas susceptible to flooding and has been a great success from a management viewpoint.

Clyde Walkway Phase Four

A new section of the Clyde Walkway was commissioned through South Lanarkshire Council with grant aiding from Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire and Scottish Natural Heritage. This section ran from Kirkfieldbank to the Clyde Valley Country Estate. From the weir forming part of Scottish Power’s hydro-electric plant the path takes a steep rocky access.
