B & Q Super Store, Darnley, GLASGOW
London and Clydeside Properties owned a redevelopment site adjacent to a new Sainsbury Store at Darnley. A new Motorway link from the M77 to Darnley had just been built and the ‘structure planting’ had to link with extensive motorway landscaping. The rock and scree in the foreground of the main picture was placed on the entrance round about and the impact of the main store reduced by screening the Garden Centre area.
The development was the largest B & Q Store in Britain at the time of development. The sheer size of the building has been successfully integrated with the surrounding landscape. Contouring of the perimeter planting was achieved by using material from excavations which was unsuitable for use under hardstandings.
